There are so many exciting March holidays coming up in the near future. We are all so excited to get back to our everyday lives now that spring is nearly in the air. However, you shouldn’t slack when it comes you your smile. You certainly don’t want to end up spending extra time in the dental chair when summer comes around in a few months. Here are some of the fun March holidays coming up and what to be wary of in your diet.
National Pi Day
Even though the 14th of March is meant to celebrate the number for pi, who is to say that you can’t bring some of your favorite pies into the picture. They are a delicious, flavorful, and comforting dessert that we can’t seem to have enough of. However, you should be careful about the types of pies that you are making when this day comes around. The higher the sugar content, the worst it is for your smile. Try to pick a recipe that uses dark chocolate, sweet potatoes, banana, carrots, or yogurts. Also try to avoid the use of acidic fruits, like lime and lemon.
St. Patrick’s Day
You may be excited for St. Paddy’s Day to come around because of all of the green things that you will be able to enjoy. However, if you grab your green beer and other green baked goods, you may end up with some green stains on your teeth in the morning. You don’t want to be showing up to work without your pearly whites being white. If you do decide to have a green beer or two, try using a whitening toothpaste and follow up with a thorough flossing. If the stains are lingering, schedule a professional cleaning with your dentist.
Fat Tuesday
For many, the day before Ash Wednesday calls for indulging in all sorts of delicious dishes before needing to fast. Fat Tuesday, also know as Mardi Gras and Pancake Tuesday, is filled with all sorts of delicious foods and beverages, but remember to go easy on things that are bad for your teeth. If you are opting for some pancakes, try choosing a sugar-free or low-sugar syrup or jam to sweeten them up.
This March, go easy on your smile. You can still enjoy these exciting holidays without the need to put your oral health at risk.
